Learning in Action: Year 3 & 4 Explore Australia Zoo!

Our Year 3 and 4 students swapped their classrooms for the wild wonders of Australia Zoo, turning curiosity into unforgettable learning. The excitement was palpable as students boarded the bus, ready for a day packed with discovery, adventure, and hands-on learning.

Science Comes Alive

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn't just any excursion. The students dove straight into their science investigations, observing animal habitats and behaviors up close. Crocodiles, with their powerful jaws and prehistoric presence, were a highlight—students eagerly jotted down notes, sketched, and discussed what makes these reptiles such fascinating creatures.

Koalas, on the other hand, offered a gentler encounter. Students watched as these iconic marsupials lounged in eucalyptus trees, learning about their diets, adaptations, and the importance of conservation. The chance to see these animals in real life, rather than just in textbooks, sparked thoughtful questions and lively discussions.

 Writing in the Wild

Armed with notebooks and pencils, students documented their observations, capturing sights, sounds, and even smells of the zoo. They described the rough texture of a crocodile's skin, the soft fur of a koala, and the vibrant calls of native birds. These real-world experiences provided rich inspiration for future writing projects, from descriptive paragraphs to creative stories.

Beyond the Classroom

This adventure was more than just a field trip—it was a celebration of curiosity, teamwork, and the joy of learning. Students returned with not only new knowledge but also a deeper appreciation for Australia's unique wildlife and the importance of protecting it.

We're proud of our young explorers and can't wait to see how they channel their experiences into their science and writing work in the weeks ahead!
